Spell Bound

Spell Bound - Rachel Hawkins

I have mixed feelings on Spell Bound. On one hand, it was just as funny as the earlier books, and it wrapped up the series fairly well. On the other hand, it felt rather rushed in places to me, particularly the final battle and the ending. I also would have liked to see a lot more of the Brannicks, although the spin-off looks like it will deliver on that, so I don't mind that one as much.

But the final battle, which the entire book had been leading up to, went rather quickly, and things were wrapped up pretty conveniently. Even

Cal's death

just seemed to be wrapped up too neatly.

Sophie is free to end up with Archer (although, to be fair, she would have even if Cal had lived), and Cal gets to stay as a ghost in the one place he loves and even will end up with Elodie eventually.

However, I still enjoyed the book. The characters and dialogue were as funny as ever, and, for the most part, I was happy with how things were wrapped up.
